Wearable event technology Loopd win IMEX America’s startup competition. The recent IMEX America event held in Las Vegas this October 2016 saw a huge growth in the number of event tech companies attending and exhibiting. Their second annual startup competition was no different with entries predominantly coming from the fast growing event tech scene.

Attendees to the competition listened intently to short pitches by the entrants. CRO of Loopd Brian Friedman was chosen as the eventual winner. Their pitch explained how event beacons are located around any type of event, whilst the Loopd technology is attached round the attendees neck on the lanyard. Their app will communicate with the tech and allow attendees to exchange information, it will also track the movement of users and their interactions with exhibitors and the conference sessions.

There has been a growth of event beacon tech, this has been taken on by a range of different standalone tech and app companies. At present a number of competitors to this work on the beacon communicating with Bluetooth technology on the attendees phone. From our own personal experience of using this, we’ve found that the reach can be sporadic depending on the shape of the room and there can be issues with users not having Bluetooth switched on at all times. Let’s hope that the approach Loopd have taken will rectify these issues and potentially create more data driven events.
