The Philippines has been pushing hard to market their event facilities and destination as an up and coming new MICE powerhouse in Asia. One year ago the Philippine Arena opened in the outskirts of Manila. Now they are embarking on a marketing blitz to try and woo foreign meeting planners, event organisers and expo businesses to launch events in their city.
The Philippine MICECon was launched in 2015 with the stated aim of encouraging event organisers to plan their shows in the Philippine capital. The venue and operations manager Enrile L Teodoro stated that the venue was built and designed to very high class standard which would compete with other iconic venues throughout the world. The venue is the largest multipurpose indoor arena in the country with a seating capacity of 55,000. This has allowed show stopping acts like Katy Perry to recently play in the capital
The venue’s location can pose a bit of a challenge for some event organisers as transport in Manila can be difficult at the best of times. To combat this the Philippine Arena is building its own transport links and terminal to aid foreign visitors
The Arena is the centerpiece of the multipurpose development – Ciudad de Victoria which houses the 20,000-seat Philippine Sports Stadium which is to be opened in 2016. Hotels, smaller venues, malls and attractions are also being planned.
